Flute Studio Must-Haves

  1. Flute, kept in good working order (once a year clean, oil & adjustment maintenance recommended)
  2. A 3-ring binder: for supplemental handouts, articles
  3. All etude, scale exercises, tone exercises, and solos which are being learned
  4. Pencil & Extra paper
  5. Metronome & Tuner

Practice Expectations

Practice every day, even if you only have 30 minutes. Do at least 45-60 minutes on the other days (except lesson days)… Remember to fill out your practice chart. I will provide you with a sample one. Please create your own on the computer and put it into your binder. Also, have your assignment sheets handy in your lessons so that we can write down what we've worked on…

Doing the basics is where the learning and growing takes place. It will be more beneficial in the long run to stay on top of these over playing your solo over and over in a short amount of time. Younger students 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th grades… divide your time up so that you don't tire as easily, but build up your endurance, the goal being able to play longer and longer at one sitting.
